General Settings

Table of Contents

General settings — is a screen, where you can set up the most common behavior of the whole GoCharting platform.

It is logically grouped into several tabs:

  • Charts tab
  • Axes tab
  • Coordinates tab
  • Objects tab
  • Orderflow tab
  • Trading tab

The most settings are applied automatically, once you change them, but, in some cases, you will be prompted to confirm the changes apply; this action is required for complex settings, where the one change will influence a complex logic.

In case you are trading in various markets that are in different time zones, you will find it useful to switch the time indicator to one of your favorite market times.

In Time zone settings group you can select what time zones are your favorite and should be displayed in a pop-up screen when you click the Time and on the chart. Once you select several items from this list, you will then be able to switch between them easily.

Lock Aspect Ratio #

Aspect Ratio is the ratio of the height and width of the zoom lens. Once locked, the zoom behaviour will show a different behaviour pattern. It can also be activated by right clicking on the main Price Axis (context menu)

Lock Aspect Ratio Zoom Behaviour

The value defines what price change corresponds to the bar width. Here is the visual aid. The ratio is set to 2 in this example. There is a price change of 2 units for 1 bar.

Coordinates Tab #

This tab manages the styling of the Price and Time Axes Edge Coordinators.

In GoCharting parlance, an Edge Coordinator is textual annotation of price and time levels on the Axes.

Objects Tab #

This tab primarly focuses on styling the Chart Legend colors and Drawing Info Boxes

Chart Legend or the Tooltip in GoCharting parlance is the additional candle level commentary provided with every chart and indicator on the top right corner of the chart panels

An Info Box is a rectangular shaped box that appears when you use any of the existing Drawing Tools such as an Arrow. It shows coordinate of each of the vortex in a drawing tool such as the Price level, Time and Angle

Orderflow Tab #

Orderflow Tab comprises of the fundamental controls required for any Orderflow analysis.

Auto Tick Mode & Tick Multiplier #

  1. Orderflow analysis depends on the selection of the box height in terms of price which is used to cluster the historical and realtime ticks to generate orderflow signals.

    • The classic definition of the box height is given by

Box Height = Tick Multiplier X Tick Size

For example, if the tick size of a symbol say Nifty 50 is 0.05 INR and we choose a tick multplier = 50, then the box height for all your Orderflow analysis is set at 2.5 INR

In the auto mode, the GoCharting algorithm uses a proprietary logic to determine the tick multplier which keeps changing as you pan the chart and load more data. Its main focus is to explain the basics of Orderflow for new beginners. Its main advantage is that it will auto adjust for every symbol and it will ensure you are able to view the cluster data conveniently.

However, if you are relying on this information to backtest and trade, we suggest you turn the Auto mode OFF and use a tick multplier of your choice as show below

We strongly suggest you use your own Tick Multplier and do not forget to turn OFF the auto mode when you are trading for more accurate results

Format Volume & Lot Size: #

When you are trading Futures on Orderflow, you may want to format the volume figures in terms of Lot Size. This control recalculates the data in terms of lot size

Trading Tab #

Trading Tab comprises of controls that help you customize your trading experience when you are either Paper Trading or connected to an exchange/broker for live trading

  • Show Executions: Trade executions are shown as UP (Buy) or DOWN (Sell) arrows on the chart
  • Beep on Execution: As the term explains, every trade execution will be followed by an audio beep on your computer
  • Show Notifications: Toggle the visibility of notification messages on order placement/cancellations/executions/modifications etc.
  • Quick Trade Mode: QuickTrade is a fast trading mode that allows creating orders, adding volume, or reversing open positions with one click directly from the symbol chart. It is a one-step process with no confirmation required. The QuickTrade feature as the name implies is designed for the faster trading process.

The Reset Paper Trader will wipe out all Papaer Trading data from the application

And finally the Reset Default button will reset all your settings to Default Factory Settings
